  Assuring Efficiency Of Action

How It All Began

The reporting system used by American Textile today was born from a conversation about four years ago between Brad Shames, Bob Brill, Steve Lefler and me, Brian Greer. Brad and I had met through baseball about 25 years ago and became re-acquainted through Steve Lefler. During that time Brad asked if I could build a system that would allow him to track the throughput and productivity of employees in a manner that employees could embrace in terms of accurate reporting and feedback on performance.

This led to me building an initial system that simply tracked Daily Employee Efficiency which included one report. This system was built and installed at Republic Los Angeles in June of 2003 and ran unchanged for about 6 months. During the installation and initial operating period I learned a great deal more about how the plant ran and the challenges faced by owners and managers in regards to employees and productivity. We (Brad, Bob, Virginia and I) had many conversations about tracking and reporting additions. It was these conversations that have led to a steady number of changes and improvements in the initial system until today’s version of the system.
